In 10 years, some 4.3 million Japanese farms are expected to have facsimile (FAX) machines. According to Successful Farming magazine, that's the goal of farm cooperative Zen-Noh.

FAX machines provide instant transmission of written information over telephone wires. They would allow Japanese farmers to order supplies and request information. Cooperatives could send information on meetings, markets and weather.Home FAX, just becoming available in the United States, sell for $800 to $1,000.
