Jane Larsen never had kids of her own, but she is survived by hundreds of children.

Larsen, who taught language arts to second- and third-graders at Rees Elementary, was honored posthumously this month by Nebo School District as one of its Teachers of the Month. Larsen, 27, died in an auto accident Thanksgiving weekend. One parent who nominated Larsen for the honor wrote, "she not only taught our children very well, but she taught them that they were very important and could do anything they put their minds to."

Another letter said the children in Larsen's class considered her their "mom away from home."

Larsen's parents accepted her certificate and presented the school district with a check for $500 to be used in their daughter's memory for a bookcase and some classical picture books. Rees Principal Ray Mecham said additional funds had been earmarked for the project to buy extra books.
