Police Wednesday were trying to determine the identity of a person burned beyond recognition in a flaming three-vehicle wreck and explosion Tuesday on I-15 near Parrish Lane in Centerville.

Two other people from Ogden were injured in the wreck, which tied up northbound traffic for nearly two hours and southbound traffic for an hour after the 3 p.m. accident.Clarence Snyder, 70, and his wife, Bernice Snyder, 69, both of Ogden, were at Lakeview Hospital in serious but stable condition.

According to UHP trooper George Nourse, the Snyder vehicle was northbound on I-15 just north of Parrish Lane when it struck a steel drum that witnesses said fell from the back of a pickup truck ahead of it.

The Snyders slowed and apparently swerved into another lane after hitting the drum, according to Nourse. Their car was rear-ended by a propane-powered vehicle driven by the unidentified person, which in turn was hit in the rear by the semitrailer truck driven by Ron Harrison, 42, Salt Lake.

The propane-powered car, apparently with two full tanks in the rear, exploded, Nourse said, reporting that witnesses said it actually blew into the air.
