"Money in America: the Business of Banking," a three-part series that explains the complex business of banking, will begin Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. on KUED, Channel 7.
Hostess for the series is Sylvia Chase, former reporter for the ABC news magazine "20/20" and currently a news anchor/investigative reporter for KRON-TV, San Francisco.The first episode focuses on how the banking industry has responded to deregulation and looks at how increased competition is resulting in new bank products and services.
The second episode centers on Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., to highlight how the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp. is buckling under the pressure of record failures and bailouts and details the factors responsible for the problems.
In the third episode the changing nature of the relationships between lenders and borrowers is examined along with the crisis of third world debt. Finally, the program watches as lobbyists try to make new bills under congressional debate meet needs of their constituencies.
