The Children's Liturgy and Mass was held amid bursts of red and white poinsettias and golden candles Christmas Eve at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake.

It is given for the children of the parish, said the Rev. M. Francis Mannion, who added that homilies directed at children very often find a place with adults.Yet it was mostly the grown-up children who filled the cathedral, B Street and South Temple, to listen to the Rev. Mannion and to hear the story of Christ's birth and the voices of the choir.

The service included traditional Christmas hymns that soared through the vaulted cathedral. "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Gloria For Christmastime" were accompanied by a brass instrument and the deep pipe organ, whose notes filled the church.

The Mass occasionally was punctuated by a child's cry, reminding worshipers of children, past, present and future.
