Mountain Fuel repair crews worked through early Christmas Eve morning to patch a pesky gas leak in an eastside neighborhood, Salt Lake police said.

Mountain Fuel spokeswoman Susan Glasmann said there was a leak in the gas main under the intersection of 20th East and 27th South that was detected after someone smelled gas coming from a manhole cover.Gas from the leak had seeped into the sewer. Crews spent several hours ventilating the sewer and the leak was temporarily patched without interrupting gas service. A permanent repair will be made early next week, Glasmann said.
