Police said Sunday they have arrested a key suspect in a string of robberies involving armored car guards, including a shootout with a guard last June in North Hollywood.

Steven Bernard Young, 29, was taken into custody on Friday night as he went to visit a friend in South Central Los Angeles. He was booked on suspicion of robbery, Detective Norman Roberge said.Two armored car guards were shot to death during robberies at a Security Pacific Bank in Panorama City Oct. 14 and a Lucky Food Center in Bellflower Dec. 15. At least 11 other guards have been robbed in a series of ambushes in Los Angeles, Riverside and Ventura counties dating back to last December.
