A jogger sexually molested a woman in the north downtown area in an attack that matches a series of sex assaults in the area.

The woman, 32, had just exited a bus about 7 a.m. April 18 and was walking in an underground parking area when she was grabbed sexually by a man who had jogged up to her from behind.

The assailant fled after a car approached. She described him as Caucasian, about 30 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with light brown hair. He wore tennis shoes and sweat pants, according to a police.

A church security guard noticed a jogger matching the attacker's description and gave chase. The jogger ran, then escaped in an older-model red pickup truck with a white camper shell, police said.

The attack is similar to more than a half-dozen others that have occurred in the dawn hours downtown since last May. Police have no suspects, said sex crimes Sgt. Roy Wasden.

Anyone with information about the crimes or the jogger is asked to call the sex crimes unit at 535-6440.
