Felony charges have been filed against John Paul Becker, a former Mountain Oil Co. executive accused of misappropriating more than $100,000 from the corporation.
Becker was arraigned Wednesday in 2nd Circuit Court on a first-degree felony count of communications fraud involving funds in excess of $100,000. He was also arraigned on two third-degree felony charges of theft and unlawful activity by a director, agent or officer.Becker faces a preliminary hearing Jan. 30 and 31 on the charges.
Charges against Becker, 49, stem from activities that took place in 1985 and 1986.
Becker, a former Mountain Oil accountant, is accused of altering corporate financial reports to cover for the theft from the company of several hundred thousand dollars, the Weber County attorney's office said.
County Attorney Reed Richards said Mountain Oil Co., which owned several local gasoline stations, recently filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Act.
