A charge of misusing public funds has been filed against Virginia Johnson, a former personal secretary to Layton Police Chief Doyle Talbot.
In a document filed in 2nd Circuit Court recently, Johnson is accused of misusing public money in Layton during 1988. Details of the alleged offense were not released by police or prosecutors.Talbot said Johnson, 33, of West Valley City, resigned from the police department in August. She had worked there about five years, he said.
She also worked part-time for Roy City as a police dispatcher but resigned in August, said Roy Fire Chief Noel Padden.
Davis County Deputy Attorney Brian Namba said the funds-misuse charge was filed in Bountiful because Johnson had worked in Layton and the circuit court in Clearfield.
He would not elaborate on any other aspects of the case.
The charge Johnson faces is a third-degree felony and carries a term of zero to five years in prison upon conviction.
Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 23.
