College students with a "Masonic heritage" will be eligible to apply for scholarships for the 1989-90 school year under a program initiated by the Masonic Foundation of Utah.

Scholarships are available to students have a father, uncle, or grandfather who was a Master Mason in good standing, or a mother, aunt or grandmother who was active in the Eastern Star, according to the Office of the Secretary, Masonic Foundation of Utah, Salt Lake City.The foundation will offer 10 $1,500 scholarships during the next school year. These can be used for academic purposes as needed.

Applications can be obtained by submitting a request to Masonic Foundation of Utah, 650 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84102. Completed applications are due by the end of the second week of October for awards for that academic year.

Scholarship recipients are selected on a combination of merit and need.
