A Woodburn teenager has been sentented to 25 years in prison for throwing concrete chunks off an I-5 overpass and injuring a Salem couple.

"In the matter of a few seconds you changed their whole lives. You devastated their lives," Marion County Circuit Judge Greg West said moments before imposing the sentence on Robert E. Rhodes.Rhodes, 17, pleaded no contest Dec. 9 to two charges of assault and one of attempted assault. The sentence handed down Thursday carries a minimum term of 71/2 years.

The couple, Frank and Zelda Suniga, were injured Sept. 24 when a 61-pound chunk of concrete crashed through their windshield as they drove under the Butteville Road overpass near Woodburn.
