Areas along the front of Mount Nebo - comprising the Mount Nebo Wilderness Area - are increasingly being used for illegal activities, said Tom Tidwell, Spanish Fork District ranger in the Uinta National Forest.
Routes built to access water rights and mining claims within the wilderness boundary are being illegally used for hunting, nature watching and scenic driving. In wilderness areas, activities involving motorized or mechanized vehicles are prohibited."We are trying to increase the awareness of our forest users in wilderness ethics. There have been many people unaware of the uniqueness of this wilderness," Tidwell said. "It concerns us that many people have been disregarding the regulations established to protect these lands."
