Retailers will be hard at work the day after Christmas to handle the anticipated crowds returning gifts, but banks and government workers will take a holiday.

Salt Lake City library branches will close at 1 p.m. Dec. 24 and remain closed Christmas Day and Dec. 26. The libraries will also close New Year's Day and Jan. 2. City crews will not pick up garbage either Dec. 26 or Jan. 2 - the legal holidays following Christmas and New Year's Day, according to Craig Posselli, city sanitation division spokesman.
