Northwest Intermediate School will be honored as Utah's winner in the first Drug-Free School Recognition Program in Washington, D.C., May 27.

School representatives will receive a plaque and a Drug-Free school flag from U.S. Secretary of Education William Bennett. Northwest is one of 30 schools in the nation to be recognized for preventing or substantially reducing alcohol and drug use by students.At Northwest, the program includes a comprehensive student self-concept enhancement program and a school and district policy on substance abuse that emphasizes education and significant consequences for violations.
