Frankie DeBusk threw a touchdown pass and Wade Sexton helped Furman hold off a Georgia Southern charge when he recovered a fumble as the Paladins won the NCAA Division I-AA championship with a 17-12 victory Saturday night.

The Paladins of the Southern Conference, 13-2, avenged a 44-42 loss to independent Georgia Southern, 12-3, in the 1985 championship game.Georgia Southern made a late charge in an effort to become the first team to win the national title three times.
