Dry bean production in Utah this year is estimated at 2.6 million pounds, down 45 percent from last year and the lowest production figure since 1978, according to the Utah Agricultural Statistics Service.

Utah dry bean growers harvested 4,500 acres in 1988, a 2,200 acre drop from 1987. The average yield was 580 pounds per acre, which is down 120 pounds from last year but up 100 pounds from 1986.
