The Houston Astros, who last week lost Nolan Ryan to the Texas Rangers, Friday signed free-agent right-hander pitcher Jim Clancy to a three-year guaranteed contract.

No financial details of Clancy's contract were announced. Clancy, 32, has spent his entire 11-year career with the Toronto Blue Jays. Clancy was 11-13 with a 4.94 ERA in 36 games last season. He pitched 196 innings, walked 47 and struck out 118.
