Judges in the Academy Awards prediction contest pored over thousands of entries this week to find the top winners. The entries ranged from all 11 correctly identified to a few with no correct answers.

Doree Tateoka of Salt Lake City won first prize a round trip for two to any location in the continental United States served by Continental Airlines plus $200 through Clawson Travel.She was among the few who correctly predicted all 11 categories in the Oscar contest. According to contest rules, a drawing was made to determine the winner and runners-up among the top entries.

In addition to the trip and cash, the top winner receives 10 passes for two at any Plitt theater.

The contest was sponsored by the Deseret News, Plitt Theaters, KISN 97 FM, Soundoff Records and Tapes and Clawson Travel.

Second-place winner, receiving a Sony portable CD player from Soundoff Records and Tapes, was Florian A. Cuatto, Salt Lake City. In addition to the player, Cuatto receives five pairs of Plitt passes.

Jennifer Botte, third-place winner, receives a VIP movie passbook good for two at a movie every week for a year through Cineplex Odeon and Plitt Theaters.

Two fourth-place prizes were offered in the contest with each receiving accommodations for two at the University Park Hotel plus two passes for two at Plitt Theaters. Winners were Cleo Page, Logan, and Barney Christiansen, Sandy.

Ski passes for two to Solitude Ski Resort for next season, fifth prize, went to Brad Parkin, Keith Smart, Cyndi Dufrenne, Charles R. Brown, Trent Fordham, Ann Dickson, Chris Cuatto, Jay E. Cooper, Janet McRoberts, Martha Spear, Angelo R. Cuatto, all Salt Lake City; Geraldine Manning and Joe Folkman, both Layton; Scott Clawson, Centerville; Merrilee Christiansen, Sandy; Kathy Hancey, Taylors-ville; Barbara Montgomery, West Valley City; Fred Hunting, American Fork; Susan Williams, Murray; and Dan Christensen, Bountiful.

In addition to the Solitude ski passes, each winner receives a Plitt pass for two.

Sixth-place winners, each receiving a six-foot Subway sandwich for a party plus Plitt passes for two, are J. David Blatt, Salt Lake City, and Sylvester M. Heiner, Ogden.

Gloria Dixon, Ogden, and Beth R. Farr, Salt Lake City, are recipients of a $20 gift certificate at any Soundoff Records and Tapes location plus two Plitt passes.

The contest asked entrants to predict winners in the categories of best picture, actor, actress, supporting actor and actress, director, original screenplay, cinematography, original score, original song and best visual effects.
