Because of the generous response from Deseret News readers Saturday, children in more than 50 Utah households will awaken to a happier Christmas morning.
Saturday morning, 64 families in the Deseret News Santa's Helping Hand program needed to be adopted. But by Saturday afternoon, only 12 families remained. The program is designed to bring Christmas cheer to low-income families who may not be able to afford any Christmas for their children. Hundreds of families in the program have been adopted and only a few more sponsors are needed.
Of the 12 still needing adoption, the families have between four and six children. "We need to provide an adequate Christmas but not a lavish one," said promotion director Keith West.
