A hoaxer once caught posing as Elizabeth Taylor's lover was arrested in Beverly Hills, Calif., on charges he tried to steal $10,050 in merchandise by pretending to be Mia Farrow's personal shop-per.

Julian Lee Hobbs, 26, also known as Rory Emerald, pleaded innocent Monday to grand theft and burglary charges in the Rodeo Drive shopping spree. He was jailed on $15,000 bail.In 1990, news organizations fell victim to a hoax in which con artists gained access to an answering service used by Taylor's publicist and announced that Hobbs and Taylor were an item.

On Saturday, someone notified the Polo Ralph Lauren boutique that Farrow's personal shopper would be coming by to pick up some items.

"The store called Mia, and Mia said she didn't know who this person was," said William Clark, a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney.

Police arrested Hobbs as he left the store with $10,050 in merchandise.
