Harriet Platt places the baby Jesus in a nativity scene she built in her front yard. Platt said she needed a project to cheer herself up after spending weeks in bed with a back injury, so she started working on a life-sized nativity scene. Her sister, Flora Watkins, helped her build a manger, and Platt dressed some mannequins she had left over from a costume business she once owned. Platt said she hopes others will enjoy her creation and perhaps plan more decorations for their own yards. She said the project did cheer her up and put her in a good mood for the Christmas season. The scene can be viewed at 166 S. Second East, Orem.
