A West Jordan man charged in Utah County with theft, misdemeanor assault and being a habitual criminal has been ordered to undergo a 90-day evaluation at Utah State Prison.
Fourth District Judge Cullen Christensen ordered Torin Plum, 28, to submit tothe evaluation and return to court on Jan. 27 for a review.Plum was awaiting sentencing on charges in both Utah and Salt Lake counties when he was arrested earlier this month following an incident involving his estranged girlfriend, authorities said.
Plum was charged in Washington County with aggravated kidnapping after the woman told authorities that Plum had abducted her. But the Washington County attorney filed a motion on Oct.12 to dismiss the charge when the woman refused to testify against him, said a secretary who declined to give her name.
Meantime, the Salt Lake city attorney's office said Plum was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Nov.3 on theft charges.
