A white beauty pageant winner renounced her title because of hostility from blacks, it was reported Friday.

Lisiane Braile, 19, said she was booed and physically threatened after being elected Carnival Princess in Porto Alegre, a southern city of 1.1 million residents about 950 miles southwest of Rio."I renounced for my physical safety, because I was threatened in anonymous phone calls that I would suffer in the flesh for winning the title," she told the Rio newspaper Jornal do Brasil.
