Gov. Norm Bangerter was expected to announce in a press conference Thursday afternoon that Dee Hansen, executive director of the Division of Natural Resources the past four years, will stay on in his position.
Bangerter was also expected to announce that Hansen will make the decision to keep or fire the six division directors under his control. That would mean Hansen would have to make the decision on the future of Bill Geer, director of the Division of Wildlife Resources. It has been rumored for over a month that Bangerter wants Geer fired. Since that announcement, there has been a flood of support for Geer from sportsmen and conservation groups.
When contacted, Hansen said he could not comment, but that if the decision to hire or fire were his that he would make those decisions quickly, "hopefully by the first of next week."
