Granite School District's Board of Education will continue to discuss privatization of its food services with Marriott Co. and other large-scale caterers.
A study session on the issue will be held prior to the next meeting of the board.A thorough investigation of how privatization works in other parts of the country will be conducted before a decision is made, said Board Member Lynn D. Davidson. The district would ask for bids if a choice is made to turn food services over to the private sector.
Larry Fackrell, a district citizen and former employee, urged that the board be cautious in looking at privatization. He noted that an attempt to turn transportation over to a contractor did not prove successful.
Fackrell said he believes the district has an efficient food service now and that it should be upgraded rather than putting money into an outside contract.
