A Duchesne man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the shooting death of one man and the wounding of a woman following an argument at a bar over a cowboy hat.
Elmer McCrary, 67, entered his plea Tuesday to charges of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder in 8th District Court before Judge Dennis Draney. In exchange or his guilty pleas, charges of first-degree capital homicide and first-degree attempted murder were dismissed.McCrary was arrested April 29 in the shooting death of 41-year-old Larry Mortensen of Duchesne and the wounding of 37-year-old Sandra Burnett of Hanna.
Authorities said the shootings occurred at the Commercial Club bar in Duchesne following an argument McCrary had with Burnett over a cowboy hat.
McCrary remained in the Duchesne County Jail pending sentencing Jan. 9.
