A 20-year-old Price man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the shotgun slaying of a police informant will be sentenced March 7, a judge decided Tuesday.

Seventh District Judge Boyd Bunnell set the sentencing date for Stacy Ray Peterson, who admitted his involvement in the March slaying of Gary Webb, 31, Price. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a capital homicide charge against Peterson.

Co-defendant James Dee Evans, 23, Price, also pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder. A sentencing date for Evans will be set following a 90-day evaluation, court officials said.

Emery County Attorney Scott Johansen said Webb, whose body was discovered March 28 in a shallow grave in the Horse Canyon area, had been a law enforcement informant.
