New York Gov. Mario Cuomo says he keeps a baseball bat by his bed but he didn't get a chance to use it on the man who burglarized the Executive Mansion. A 43-year-old man was stopped for drunken driving Tuesday in Oriskany, N.Y., and later accused of stealing from the governor's mansion after finding memorabilia from the mansion in his possession. The burglar slipped past guards and an electronic security system to roam the residential floor of the mansion while Cuomo's wife, Matilda, was home. "The real concern you have in this business is not for your own safety but for your family," Cuomo said. "It's not just fear. It's the violation." Asked if the experience made him want to get a gun, Cuomo said he keeps a Louisville Slugger by his bed to deal with prowlers.
