Tons of carrots will be given away in Richfield Dec. 3, courtesy of Agri-Development Corp., a non-profit organization that is promoting vegetable growing and processing in Sevier County.

Carrots were raised on a test plot at 750 N. 5th East in Richfield. They will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, beginning at 10 a.m. at that location.Agri-Development Corp. managed a 10-acre test plot for fall carrot production as part of feasibility studies that will determine to what extent vegetables can be grown in the area and whether a processing plant would be successful.

Officials estimate 100 tons of carrots were grown on the test plot and said they are pleased to share the harvest with residents.

Mechanical equipment will dig the crop, so residents need only to pick up the carrots. Participants must provide their own containers.
