Sir David Trench, governor and commander-in-chief of the British colony of Hong Kong from 1964 to 1971, has died at age 73.

He died Sunday at his home in southwest England, his family announced. The cause of his death was not made public.Trench also served as Britain's high commissioner for the Western Pacific from 1961 to 1963.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and a daughter.
