Cyprus High School is one of 16 schools throughout the West that will be honored during the annual meeting of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, a school accrediting agency.

The association will meet in Anchorage, Alaska, this month.Cyprus Principal James Short said few schools have been accredited by the Northwest Association for more than 50 years. Cyprus has achieved that milestone, having been first accredited in 1938.

The association accredits more than 1,200 schools in Alaska, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Utah. Accreditation connotes adherence to high minimum standards in curriculum, facilities, guidance and counseling, media services, staffing and administration.
