More than 200 Utah high school students will compete at Weber State College next month to win a new Buick for their school.

The annual Buick-Weber State College Auto Contest starts Dec. 8 with a written test to show knowledge of auto mechanics, said Steve Stuart of the college's Automotive Service Technology Department. The top scorers on the written test then will be given a chance to show their "hands-on skills" Jan. 12.

"The student finalists will be exposed to several cars, all of which have been bugged with mechanical problems. The students must diagnose and repair each of the problems while being timed," he said.

The Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac Division of General Motors will award a 1988 Buick to the school of the winning team.
