A California man is being held in Utah County Jail after turning himself in to Payson police and reporting the slaying over the weekend of a woman in San Pedro, Calif.
San Pedro officers had no report of the slaying until Payson officers tried to confirm the information given them Sunday by Kevin L. Manley, 23. The California police officers went to the address Manley gave and found Marilyn Mallory, about 43, dead from a gunshot wound.Payson Police Officer Kirk Mittleman said Tuesday that Manley was being held pending extradition to Los Angeles. Mittleman said extradition is expected within a week.
Manley told Payson police that Mallory was his former boss. After the shooting, Manley took the woman's car and started driving. When he arrived in Payson he didn't know where he was.
Payson officers Tom Runyan and Dave Eshelman responded to a call from an elderly couple who said Manley came to their house because the police station was locked Sunday night.
Manley arrived in Payson about 8 p.m. Sunday and was taken to the police station about 8:15 p.m. He was taken to Mountain View Hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted knife wound on his arm.
Runyan said Manley has been convicted of a drunken-driving homicide and was wanted for a parole violation in Washington state.
