A 7-month-old boy was in critical condition Wednesday in Primary Children's Medical Center as Salt Lake police investigate a possible child abuse.

Efraim Ocampo, son of Efraim and Norma Ocampo, 510 N. Colorado St., was found unconscious Monday afternoon at the home of his baby sitter, according to a police report.The baby sitter took the infant to FHP Medical Center, 1525 W. 21st South, about noon Monday after discovering the boy was stiff and having difficulty breathing.

The boy was transferred to Primary Children's where doctors determined the baby had suffered extensive brain damage due to oxygen deprivation, according to the report.

The baby also suffered "retinal hemorrhaging, which indicates that (he) had been shaken violently," the report states.
