A record number of visitors toured Timpanogos Cave this year - 89,969, exceeding the record set last year by 2.5 percent.

The cave tour, part of Timpanogos Cave National Monument, was open from May 7 to Oct. 30.Chief Ranger Scott W. Isaacson said: "In July alone 25,665 visitors toured the caves, topping an old (July) record set in 1985 by 3.5 percent. In October, 7,333 visitors toured the caves, exceeding the previous (October) record by 55 percent."

The National Park Service is planning to implement a reservation system for tours next season.

Through the winter, the visitors center is open daily from 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m. The center is closed Christmas and New Year's days.
