Seven ShopKo stores in Utah will join with their counterparts in other parts of the United States to hold a special senior citizen and disabled people day Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon.
It will feature free refreshments, Christmas carolers, free gift wrapping, carry-out service, special coupon and shopping assistance by employees who will help senior citizens and disabled people with their purchases. Extra seating will be provided along with in-store coupons and red light specials. For those customers who haven't sat on Santa Claus' lap for many years, the jolly old gentleman will be in the stores for photographs and conversation. The first 50 people to sit on Santa's lap will receive a free photograph.
For those who might get too excited about sitting on Santa's lap, there will be free blood pressure screening.
Jane Kresin, public affairs manager for the store chain, said another highlight will be a "listen and win event." Each senior citizen or disabled person entering the store will receive a pre-printed coupon sheet with a number on the top, and every 30 minutes a number will be drawn with the winners receiving a $25 shopping spree.
There will be eight winners in each of the stores in Taylorsville, Murray, Sandy, West Jordan, Provo, Ogden and Layton.
