A boatload of more than 140 Vietnamese refugees who survived a monsoon storm to land on the Thai coast were pushed back to sea Wednesday after repairs to their vessel, officials said.

"Since their destination is not Thailand, we repaired their boat for them, gave them food and fuel, and they left," Col. Sasipong Patrawong, deputy police chief of Songkhla province, 325 miles south of Bangkok, told United Press International in a telephone interview.
