City Council member Keith Christeson had just one word to say when he learned the old city hall building on Main Street had a new owner: "Hurrah!".
Jim Brailsford, American Fork, bought the building several weeks ago for $45,000 and will use it for a boot and shoe repair shop and a dry goods store.Brailsford, who owns Western Boot in American Fork, promised the council he would "treat the building real good."
Brailsford plans to open his store by Feb. 1, 1989.
The city had several previous offers on the building, but none of them panned out.
"Our interest is selling (the building) at a good price to someone who will take good care of it," Mayor David Holdaway said.
Brailsford agreed to continue renting part of the structure to the Pleasant Grove Ambulance Service, and to make repairs to the building.
The City Council agreed to remove a warning siren from the building's roof, and to remove two underground gas tanks located behind the building.
Money from the sale will be deposited in the city's capital projects fund.
