A man has been found guilty of stabbing a Salt Lake woman to death and then choking her son, who witnessed the murder.
A 3rd District Court jury on Monday found Juan Jose Lopez Jr., 24, guilty of second-degree murder, a first-degree felony, and child abuse, a second-degree felony.Lopez killed Cindy Redfox Hernandez, 32, in her apartment at 218 W. Fourth North on March 2. While her 7-year-old son looked on, Lopez stabbed Hernandez with a knife, then choked - and nearly killed - the boy with an electrical cord.
Hernandez was the mother of three children, ages 1, 3 and 7.
Judge John Rokich scheduled sentencing for Jan. 9 at 1 p.m.
