A man who pleaded no contest to reduced charges in the robbery and murder of a Midvale storage unit manager has been sent to Utah State Prison.

Roger Eugene Penman, 26, appeared Monday before 3rd District Judge John Rokich, who ordered him to serve two concurrent prison terms of one to 15 years.In October, Penman pleaded no contest to manslaughter and robbery, both second-degree felonies, in connection with the Oct. 31, 1987, break-in and robbery at a Midvale storage unit complex, 111 S. Allen St. During that crime, storage unit manager Spencer Nielson, 53, was shot and killed with a 20-gauge shotgun.

Penman must also pay a $2,500 fine and pay restitution to be determined by the state division of Adult Probation and Parole.

A second defendant, Wendell Devon Baer, 30, charged with second-degree murder, has yet to be apprehended.
