a popular West High School teacher - has been ordered to undergo a 90-day mental evaluation at Utah State Prison.

James William Tolbert III, who has been in the Salt Lake County Jail since his conviction Oct. 21 of second-degree murder, appeared Monday afternoon before 3rd District Judge Raymond Uno.On the recommendation of defense attorney Andy Valdez, Uno ordered the 90-day evaluation, in part because the state division of Adult Probation and Parole had failed to prepare a pre-sentence report in time for Monday's sentencing.

Uno rescheduled sentencing for Feb. 27.

A jury convicted Tolbert, 22, of strangling his wife, Janie Heller-Tolbert, 26, whose body was found concealed in debris near the Jordan River on May 5, 1987.
