Information given to Utah law officers by a man who contacted them Sunday led police to the home of a San Pedro woman, who they found shot to death in her bedroom, officials said Monday.

Kevin Manley, 23, who left California in the victim's car contacted Payson, Utah, authorities about 6 p.m. Sunday, Los Angeles homicide detective Larry Kallestad said.He told Utah officers about the San Pedro woman being dead, Kallestad said.

Utah authorities notified Los Angeles police and an officer went to the home of Marilyn Mallory, 45, in an upper middle class area of San Pedro, and found the woman lying dead in her bedroom with "more than one" gunshot wound, he said.

Kallestad said Manley was a friend of Mallory's daughter and had been doing odd jobs for the victim.

It was not known how long Mallory had been dead, but Kallestad said neighbors reported hearing shots about 11 p.m. Saturday. A handgun believed used in the shooting has not been recovered.

Manley is in the custody of Utah County authorities.
