A man accused of robbing a bank couldn't resist the urge to do a little Christmas shopping, so he hired a taxi outside the bank and rode from store to store for more than an hour before he was arrested.
By the time police caught up with Willie Carroll Williams, 37, of Atlanta, on Monday, the cab was stuffed with shopping bags full of shirts, shoes and pants, officers said."When you've got the money, you might as well spend it," the cab driver, who asked not be identified, quoted his passenger as saying.
According to police, Williams phoned for the cab at about the same time Coast Federal Savings and Loan was robbed. Authorities did not release the dollar loss in the robbery, a policy followed with federal banks, said Sarasota police Sgt. Michael Schott.
