Wicat Systems Inc. has laid off nearly 5 percent of its employees in an effort to "redirect the company toward greater profits," according to the company president.
"We let about 30 people go last Thursday, but we will probably hire almost that many back eventually," said Bob Mendenhall, president of the computer software and hardware company. "We found we needed more people in marketing and sales, and we could let a few go from educational research and development." Wicat has 650 remaining employees."The layoff wasn't because of a big problem. We just needed to adjust our work force to get the company the right skills to meet new programs."
