The Doubletree Hotel in Salt Lake City will join its counterparts in other sections of the country by offering free short-term lodging for people who want to be near their children who are patients at the Primary Children's Medical Center.
Roger Swadish, hotel general manager, said the program starts Nov. 24 and continues through New Year's Eve. Last year the hotel provided 181 room nights for 44 families, and this year that could reach 250 room nights."This is our chance to repay the community for the success they have brought us," Swadish said. Each night, the hotel will set aside 10 rooms for this program.
In addition to the free lodging, a buffet breakfast will be served. Referrals to the hotel are made by medical center officials and recipients can stay up to seven nights.
This year, all 29 Doubletree Hotels across the country are providing free lodging for the same purpose and officials expect to give away more than 1,000 room nights.
Swadish said until the new medical center is complete, parent accommodations at the hospital are minimal and it's a good idea for families to be near children during treatment.
