A general workers strike erupted in violence Thursday, leaving a teenage boy dead, three people wounded and 32 others arrested, authorities said.

In southern Quito, where a general strike was held by the Unitary Workers Front, an unidentified gunman shot to death Victor Vilana, 13, said Luis Felix, deputy minister of the interior.In the southeastern city of Guayaquil, three people were shot and wounded by unknown assailants and 32 people were arrested by police, said Rafael Guerrero, governor of the Province of Guayas.
