Wayne Gretzky, a name synonymous with records and milestones, is creating an association between the Los Angeles Kings and winning hockey.
"He knows how to win, and it's rubbed off on the others," Red Wings goaltender Greg Stefan said of Gretzky, who became the fifth player in NHL history to score 600 goals in leading the Kings to an 8-3 victory over Detroit Wednesday night. "They used to have a hard time putting three periods together, much less three games."Gretzky added five assists and Bernie Nicholls improved his league-leading goals total to 28 with a pair, extending his goal-scoring string to 10 games. Steve Yzerman scored a pair of goals for the Red Wings, whose seven-game winning streak was snapped.
