A judge ruled Wednesday that Ronald Hinckley is incompetent to stand trial on felony charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, aggravated sexual abuse and sodomy on a minor.

First District Judge Venoy Christoffersen ordered Hinckley, 39, of Logan, committed to the state mental hospital in Provo until he has sufficiently recovered from what two Salt Lake clinical psychologists diagnosed as chronic paranoid schizophrenia.Christoffersen ordered that reports on Hinckley's progress be made available every 90 days. If he is determined competent, the judge said, Hinckley will be returned to Cache County for trial.

Hinckley has been in Cache County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail since last Dec. 1. He was arrested after photographs of nude and seminude children he submitted to a Utah State University art class were turned over to police by the instructor.
