Thanksgiving cooks with lots of time to prepare their turkey might want to consider baking the holiday bird at just 250 degrees, says Dennis Hinkamp of Utah State University's Extension Service.

Most cookbooks recommend an oven temperature of about 325 degrees for turkeys, said Hinkamp. But turkeys cooked at 250 degrees "scored slightly better in taste tests.""Baking temperature should be chosen partially on the basis of when you want the bird ready," he said. "It takes twice as long to cook at 250 degrees. The lower temperature reading would be best for overnight cooking."
